Dr. Belzer is an expert in federal agency policies and practices related to the use of science and economics in regulatory decision-making. He also has expertise in federal information quality guidelines, and their application to influential scientific, technical and statistical information. Dr. Belzer is currently President of Regulatory Checkbook in Virginia. He spent 11 years as an Economist with the Office of Management and Budget, where he was responsible for reviewing major draft proposed and final regulations and regulatory and risk analyses submitted for review. Dr. Belzer received his PhD in Public Policy from Harvard University.

Dr. Berndt's professional and research interests have related to both pharmacology and toxicology, in particular the effects of chemicals in renal function. These studies have involved various heavy metals, organic solvents and fungal toxins. Dr. Berndt is currently the chairman of the Pharmacology Department at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Toxicology, and a Fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences. He is a member of various professional organizations, most notably the Society of Toxicology, the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, The American Society of Nephrology and the International Society for the Study of Xenobiotics. Dr. Berndt received his PhD in Pharmacology from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Dr. Bus has served in various capacities at Dow since 1989. He is a member of several professional societies, including the Society of Toxicology which he served in several elected capacities including President. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology. Currently, Dr. Bus is a member of the National Research Council's Board on Environmental Studies and Toxicology, the NRC's standing Committee on Emerging Issues and Data on Environmental Contaminants, the Committee on Applications of Toxicogenomic Technologies to Predictive Toxicology, and U.S. EPA's Science Advisory Board. Previously he served as a member of ORD's Board of Scientific Counselors. He has served on the editorial board or as an editor of five scholarly journals. He holds a B.S. in medicinal chemistry from the University of Michigan and a PhD in pharmacology from Michigan State University.

Dr. Cavalieri is an expert in the mechanisms of carcinogenesis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and estrogens. He is currently the Director of the University of Nebraska Center for Environmental Toxicology and a Professor at the Eppley Institute for Research in Cancer and Allied Diseases at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He has joint appointments in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at UNMC, as well as in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. Dr. Cavalieri is the author of 160 scientific publications and 10 book chapters mainly in the area of mechanisms of carcinogenesis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and estrogens. Dr. Cavalieri received a D.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Milan, Italy.
Steven C. Lewis, PhD DABT
Dr. Lewis is President and Principal Scientist for Integrative Policy and Science, Inc. Prior to his retirement he served as a Distinguished Scientific Associate at ExxonMobil Biomedical Sciences, Inc. in Annandale, NJ. He is an adjunct professor at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey and a senior fellow at the Green Center for the Study of Science and Society, University of Texas (at Dallas). Dr. Lewis has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and has served on the editorial boards of several toxicological publications. He is a member of a panel on Public Participation in Environmental Decision-Making for the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and has served as a consultant to the U.S. EPA Science Advisory Board. Dr. Lewis received his PhD in Toxicology from Indiana University Medical School in Indianapolis.

Dr. North has served on several NRC panels and co-authored several path-breaking NRC reports including Risk Assessment in the Federal Government: Managing the Process (1983), Improving Risk Communication (1989), Science and Judgment in Risk Assessment (1994), and Understanding Risk: Informing Decisions in a Democratic Society (1996). He also has served as a member of the NRC's Board on Radioactive Waste Management and was a presidentially-appointed member of the U.S. Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board. He has served the Society for Risk Analysis as President and received the Society's Outstanding Practitioner Award in 1999. In 1997, he received the Frank P. Ramsey Medal from the Decision Analysis Society for lifetime contributions to the field of decision analysis. Dr. North holds a B.S. in physics from Yale University and a PhD in operations research from Stanford University.

Dr. Pleus is an expert in neurological and reproductive toxicology with over 20 years experience assessing the risk to humans exposed to chemical and biological agents via food, consumer products, therapeutic agents, and the environment. The unifying thread of all Dr. Pleus' efforts is the constant emphasis on applying the best, most credible science to enhancing public health. Dr. Pleus is the director of Intertox, Inc. in Seattle, WA. He is also an adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, as well as a faculty member of the Center for Environmental Toxicology at the University of Nebraska. Dr. Pleus received his PhD in toxicology from the University of Minnesota, and performed postdoctoral research in neuropharmacology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
